Carlos and Sarah from Surplus of Options will join us in studio for this week’s show. They are a couple of twentysomethings who, in addition to reworking old furninshings, deal in “junk”, art objects and “curiosities” galore. Much of what they deal has stories that are just as much fun as the items themselves, from an Alligator skull to a hand mirror incrusted with rhinestones and an icon of Black Madonna. In their words it’s:
THINGS WE FIND. IN OLD HOMES. IN BASEMENTS. GARAGES. BARNS. TRUNKS OF CARS. IN THE WOODS & ON BEACHES. IN ALLIES.
Below, signs from the old Riverview Amusement Park in Chicago (salvaged by a former employee, and kept for decades), up for sale in the store. The park closed around 1967.
